The programme consists of a two-year rotational programme,
broken down into four six-month seats. This gives you the chance to
experience up to four specialist areas of law. You might already
know which area of the law you wish to specialise in, but if you
don't, this is your opportunity to find out.
1. Which departments?
We always try to allocate you to departments that fall in with
your areas of interest, however some may not be able to accommodate
a trainee at that particular time. Your first seat will be
allocated to you on arrival, but we'll let you know where you will
be sitting before your first day.
2. Your progress
At the end of each seat, you will meet with our training
partner, Angela Woods to discuss how the six months
have gone, and any training and development needs you may have.
We will also discuss which departments you are interested in
moving to next as we will always do our best to ensure you complete
seats in the majority of your areas of interest. You will also
be encouraged to record your learning experience throughout your
two year training contract to gain the maximum benefit from your
training.
3. Coaching and support
Due to the nature of our training programme, we are delighted to
be able to provide intensive one-to-one coaching and support to all
our trainees. In each of your seats you will work alongside a
partner from that area, actually sharing their office. We have
found that this is the best way to learn and put your academic
knowledge into practice.
Our dedicated training partner and HR manager are also always on
hand to provide you with personal and professional support and
guidance.
You won't be left to handle a caseload on your own in the first
instance, however you should expect to be given a lot of
responsibility and autonomy; we won't have you making the tea and
photocopying all the time!
4. Your final six months
We appreciate the importance for you to sit in an area of
interest at this stage, and will always try to arrange your final
seat in the area of law in which you wish to specialise. This could
even mean you are offered the choice to sit a second seat in an
area to gain additional experience, should you so wish.
