Deborah joined Walker Smith Way in October 2006, having qualified as a solicitor a month before. Her specialist areas include wills, probate, tax planning and trusts. Deborah is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) having completed her diploma in November 2008.

STEP is the professional body for trust and estate professionals worldwide, providing education, training, representation and networking for its members. Before working for the firm, Deborah lived in Italy for three years and taught english as a foreign language in Rome. She is a fluent italian speaker and studied spanish to degree level.

Why did you choose to specialise in wills, trust and probate?
I have always been interested in tax and succession law. I was drawn to private client work as I particularly enjoy the client contact and building relationships.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Joining Walker Smith Way and qualifying as a full member of STEP.

What do you feel most passionate about within your working life?
Being able to help clients and really make a difference at  what can often be an extremely difficult and emotional time in their lives.

What do you feel most passionate about within your home life?
Family and friends. I'm also a very keen golfer, playing off a 12 handicap.

If you won the lottery tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?
The first thing I would do is book a luxurious holiday. During that holiday I would have a good think about how I would secure my family's financial future whilst benefiting charity and my close friends.
