John qualified as a solicitor in 1986. He has been committed to
representing trade unions and their members throughout his career,
the majority of which was spent at Thornleys where he was formerly
senior partner and then transferred to Walker Smith Way in April
2010. He has been involved in a number of significant cases over
the years, most notably a stress case dealing with jurisdiction
issues between employment tribunals and the civil courts.
John specialises in repetitive strain injuries, stress and
industrial disease cases. John is a member of the Association of
Personal Injury Lawyers and is currently the president of
Manchester Law Society.
Why did you choose to specialise in personal
injury?
I have been committed to working for trade unions throughout my
professional career: it is one of the primary reasons why I entered
the law.
What has been the highlight of your career so
far?
As far as court cases go succeeding in a complex case involving
unfair dismissal and stress related illness.
What do you feel most passionate about within your working
life?
Helping working people with their problems.
What do you feel most passionate about within your home
life?
My son and Darlington FC.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing
you'd do?
Relax and have a party.
