Joseph joined Walker Smith Way as a trainee solicitor in 2011.
He currently assists Jeremy Weaver, one of our partners in
the dispute resolution department and the family
department with their varied caseload. He gained his Law
Degree at the University of Hull, where he worked at the
University's first legal advice clinic run by students for the
general public. Whilst studying he also gained work experience at
the Government Legal Service and the Crown Prosecution
Service.
Why did you choose to do a seat in dispute
resolution and family?
I enjoy the variety and challenge of working on the
different areas of law that could potentially fall
within dispute resolution. Every day is different. However the
common thread running through all of our work is the client who has
a problem which needs resolving. I also find family an interesting
and challenging area of law, requiring thought not only
as to the theoretical legal issues but also how to
resolve these difficult and often highly emotional problems from a
practical standpoint.
What is your experience of being a trainee at Walker Smith
Way?
I'm just getting settled in, but already I've been made to feel
very welcome.
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Getting a training contract was pretty special.
What do you feel most passionate about within your working
life?
Doing my best to achieve the desired outcome for my
clients.
What do you feel most passionate about within your home
life?
Film and theatre, cooking or rather haphazardly attempting
to cook, my small collection of guitars and keeping fit.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing
you'd do?
Help my parents pay off their mortgages, donate some money
to charity and then spend the rest of the money on guitars. I would
also like to own my own island some day.
