Failure to diagnose and treat multi focal motor neuropathy

Complex case relating to failure to diagnose condition called multi focal motor neuropathy affecting client's arms.  Diagnosis was in fact made by one of the medical experts advising the client which led to correct treatment.  Delay in treatment had permanently worsened the condition.  There were complex isssues in relation to loss of earnings as the client did not have an established employment history.


Perforation of bowel

£300,000 awarded plus £40,000 per year for rest of life
Client sustained perforation of bowel whilst having key hole surgery.  This was not recognised at the time and the client went on to suffer septicaemia and multi organ failure with some consequent, though fortunately mild, brain damage as a result.

Epidural for childbirth and stress at work
£255,000 awarded
Complex combined clinical negligence and stress at work claim against the same defendant relating to epidural carried out during child birth leading to ongoing problems; stress claim related to how the claimant was then treated at work.

Pressure sore
£20,000 awarded
Pressure sore developed during prolonged surgery as a result of incorrect postitioning on the operating table.

Internal bleed

£15,000 awarded
An elderly widower recovered £15,000 for the pain and suffering, funeral expenses and bereavement following the death of his wife in hospital.  She was admitted for a routine orthopaedic procedure but exhibited signs and symptoms of internal bleeding on admission which were not acted upon or treated.  She received anti-inflammatory medication postoperatively which exacerbated her condition.  This led to a deterioration and sadly she did not survive.  The widower was offered £5,000 initially by the Trust's Solicitors, but the increased award was negotiated shortly after our instruction.

Incorrect treatment for breast cancer
£15,000 awarded
Case relating to incorrect treatment in relation to breast cancer.  Client did have cancer in one breast but not in the other but received treatment on both.  Claim related to severe unnecessary biopsies and partial lymph node clearance.

Ill-fitting plaster cast
£11,500 awarded
Child developed plaster sore from an ill fitting plaster cast resulting in significant scarring to leg.
