Negligence during hernia surgery
£4,500 awarded
The claimant was admitted to hospital for inguinal hernia
surgery. During the procedure, the implanted mesh was not
adequately secured. As a result of this, the hernia recurred
and a further operation was required.
Delay in diagnosing a fractured wrist
£6,500 awarded
Client was only correctly diagnosed with a fractured wrist
following a 3-week delay. As well as the pain and distress
caused by this delay, the claimant was also left with a cosmetic
deformity and limited impairment in wrist movement. This
affected her ability to take part in various leisure and domestic
activities.
Negligent plastic surgery
£17,000 awarded
Client underwent plastic surgery to resolve the development of
excessive breast tissues (gynaecomastia). The procedure was
not carried out successfully, leaving the client with a significant
deformity of the right breast following inappropriate excision of
the pectoralis major muscle.
Delayed induction of labour leading to
stillbirth
£20,000 awarded
A reduction in amniotic fluid failed to be recognised and diagnosed
during our client's pregnancy. As a result, the induction of
labour was delayed, which meant that sadly the baby died in
utero. The client was then forced to deliver the baby and she
suffered a serious psychological reaction as a result.
Incorrect hormone replacement therapy
treatment
£30,000 awarded
Client was negligently prescribed oestrogen-only hormone
replacement therapy by her GP over a period of nearly two
years. As she had not undergone a hysterectomy, this type of
HRT was incorrect, resulting in a buildup of tissue in her womb
which was fortunately discovered before it became malignant.
She was forced to undergo an otherwise unnecessary
hysterectomy. Due to complications, the client was admitted a
week later for emergency surgery, which resulted in extensive
scarring and depression.
Dental negligence
£9,500 awarded
After undergoing dental implant surgery, 3 out of 4 of the client's
implants fell out within a year. Client then sued his dentist
for negligent planning and performance, alleging that the implants
were inserted into thin areas of his gum due to the failure to
perform a CT scan and carry out bone grafting. As a result,
the client will now require additional surgery to restore him to
his preoperative position enabling him to wear a denture.
Stroke resulting from incorrect drug
usage
£1 million awarded
Client suffered stroke as a result of hospital failure to adjust
dose of Warfarin following surgery.
