Every year we recruit trainees to join us on a two-year rotational programme.
The programme consists of four 6-month seats. This gives you the chance to experience up to four specialist areas of law. You might already know which area of the law you wish to specialise in, but if you don’t, this is your opportunity to find out.
Which departments?
We always try to allocate you to departments that fall inline with your areas of interest, however some may not be able to accommodate a trainee at the particular time. Your first seat will be allocated to you on arrival.
Your progress
At the end of each seat, you will meet with our Training Partner, Angela Woods to discuss how the six months have gone, and any training and development needs. We will also discuss which departments you are interested in moving to next. We will always do our best to ensure you complete seats in the majority of your areas of interest. You will also be encouraged to record your learning experience throughout your 2 year training contract to gain the maximum benefit from your training.
Coaching and support
Due to the nature of our training programme, we are able to provide intensive one-to-one coaching and support. On each seat you will work alongside a Partner in that area, actually sharing their office. We have found that this is the best way to learn and put your academic knowledge into practice.
Our dedicated Training Partner and HR Manager are also always on hand to provide support and guidance.
You will be given a lot of responsibility and autonomy to make your own decisions. You will not be left to handle a caseload on your own in the first instance – but neither will you be making the tea and photocopying all the time either.
Your final six months
We will try to arrange your final seat in the area of law in which you wish to specialise. This could mean that you are offered the choice to sit a second seat in an area to gain additional experience.
