A Solicitor who was involved in the trial of one of Britain’s top supergrasses has been promoted.
Richard Thornton Thomas has been made a partner with Chester and Wrexham legal firm Walker Smith Way.
The promotion follows on from his involvement in a number of high profile cases since joining the firm in 1997.
He successfully defended a trading standards prosecution involving computer industry giant Microsoft Software.
Richard, 32, also represented a top British supergrass in a case that led to a definition of new case law.
He is passionate about justice and the rights of everyone to a fair hearing, representing clients in general criminal defence and private prosecutions, as well as being a member of Chester and Ellesmere Port’s 24-hour police and court duty solicitor scheme.
Richard is thrilled at being promoted from associate to partner with Walker Smith Way, which he joined as a trainee after leaving Bristol University in 1997.
He said: “It is a great working environment here, sociable and friendly, but also extremely professional, and the whole team is dedicated to doing the best for the clients. I have been very lucky to train with and now become a partner with such a leading firm.”
Walker Smith Way employs 170 people and is one of the leading legal firms in the region, proving a serious competitor to firms in Manchester and Liverpool.
Managing Partner Gareth Humphreys said: “We are delighted to be making Richard a partner in a promotion which is a deserved recognition of his career success so far. As a firm, we are committed to investing in our employees and acknowledging their skills and hard work. This also encourages them to stay with us in the future.”
Away from work, he is a keen cricketer and footballer, playing soccer for local club, Watergate FC, as well as the Walker Smith Way team, and cricket for legal squad, The Outlaws.
