As of December 2005, same-sex couples have been able to register their relationship to obtain legal recognition and be recognised as ‘civil partners’.
The law concerning Civil Partnerships covers not only the rights and responsibilities between the partners; but also rights relating to children, finances, child support, home occupancy rights and protection from violence. It also covers beneficiary rights with regards to property and possessions in the event of death of either party. However, it is always safest to make a Will to ensure your assets are divided exactly as you would want them to be.
